About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and experienced Senior Data Scientist to support our US Biopharma Fremont team. In this role, you will apply advanced data science techniques to solve complex business challenges and drive smart, data-driven decision-making. Your expertise will help us leverage cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning, causal inference, and natural language processing to uncover valuable insights and opportunities.
You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams across our organization, including international collaborations with Biopharma sites in Vienna and Biberach. In addition, you will design and deploy computational models, develop algorithms, and create visualizations that support informed decisions. As a senior member of the team, you will also manage projects and mentor junior colleagues to build a robust data science culture.
Key Responsibilities
Delivering impactful data science projects:
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define business challenges and create tailored end-to-end data science solutions.
- Scope and prioritize projects by identifying relevant metrics (KPIs/OKRs) to measure success.
- Partner with developers to implement scalable, production-ready solutions.
- Establish data governance and compliance practices while ensuring operational efficiency.
- Monitor deployed models to maintain high performance and reliability.
Driving analytical excellence:
- Use advanced data science expertise to design, prototype, and build innovative analytics engines.
- Generate hypotheses and validate insights by collaborating with domain experts.
- Identify, evaluate, and deploy optimal algorithms for specific problems.
Fostering cross-department collaboration:
- Advocate for data science and AI applications across business functions to promote a data-driven culture.
- Regularly engage with domain experts to deepen business understanding and improve solutions.
- Train and mentor employees on basic data science principles to build internal capabilities.
Building communities and partnerships:
- Establish strong networks with internal teams and external partners.
- Share knowledge and collaborate with other data science teams globally.
- Provide thought leadership by researching best practices, conducting experiments, and contributing to industry discussions.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of relevant industry experience.
- OR Master’s degree with 4+ years of relevant industry experience.
- OR Ph.D. with 2+ years of relevant industry experience.
- Academic background in a quantitative field such as computer science, mathematics, bioinformatics, or related disciplines.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in R, Python, C++, and scripting languages (e.g., PHP, Perl, Bash).
- Experience working in UNIX environments and handling big data or unstructured data.
- Deep understanding of data architecture, ETL processes, and diverse data formats.
- Expertise in database management, including operations, queries, and data modeling.
- Familiarity with data security best practices and data enrichment techniques.
- Experience with Large Language Models (LLMs) or mechanistic models is a plus.
Analytical Expertise:
- Advanced skills in machine learning, natural language processing, and predictive modeling.
- Strong knowledge of statistical methods, regression analysis, and dimensionality reduction.
- Experience with algorithms, Bayesian networks, and time-series analysis.
- Ability to design and validate models for real-world business scenarios.
Business Acumen:
- Strong stakeholder management and the ability to balance competing priorities.
- Proven experience driving change in organizations through data-driven solutions.
- Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and time management skills.
- Ability to adapt to dynamic environments and emerging challenges.
Compensation and Benefits
This role offers a base salary ranging from $83,000 to $130,000, with the potential for higher compensation based on experience and qualifications. Additional compensation elements, such as performance bonuses, may also apply. For details about our benefits,
