Job Description:

Position Summery:
Under the direction of the Director of Surgical Services or Surgical Services Leadership Team the Sterile Processing Tech demonstrates competence in operation and documentation of steam and gas sterilizers.  Exhibits knowledge of principles of sterilization and infectious disease transmission.  Demonstrates knowledge of working safely as it relates to medical processing and sterilization.  Prepares and cares for the medical instruments and equipment used during endoscopic procedures. Responsible for maintaining clean examination areas by setting up rooms, stocking and ordering of equipment and supplies, cleaning instruments and maintaining GI/Bronchoscopy diagnostic equipment including sterilizing equipment between patients and adhering to infection control measures.  Assists physicians and nurses during exams or procedures and may also collect stool, urine and other bodily fluid specimens from patients.  Function under all guidelines as established in the association for the advancement of medical instrumentation (AAMI). 
Education:  High school graduate/GED acceptable
                   Certification by state association of central services technician required (or must be willing to complete
                   Certifications within 18 months of accepting position)                                                               
                   CPR Certification Required
Experience: 1 year experience in acute care setting strongly preferred with 1 year central processing technician experience with a focus in instrument decontamination and processing within the last 2 years required.  Knowledge of decontamination, processing and sterilization of instruments/supplies, Knowledge of use of Autoclaves, stem and ETO, Computer skills, knowledge of keyboard, Microsoft Suite
License and Certifications: Current certification as a Certified Sterile Processing & Distribution Technician (CSPDT) by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution or as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) by the International Association of Healthcare Central Service and Material Management or  Must be willing to complete   Certifications within 18 months of accepting position. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BCLS required.   EMT license, Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of California or a minimium of 1,000 hours of on the job training in a similary patient care setting.
