Job description
SUMMARY:
  • The Lead Systems Engineer will both lead and participate on a technical team responsible for code deployments, release automation, application configuration and application support for large-scale online student systems.
  • This individual will partner with Infrastructure, Development and QA teams to help facilitate processes and tools in support of the Agile SDLC.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage DevOps Team, consisting of Systems Engineers and Database Administrators, while participating as a hands on subject matter expert and technology leadProvide tools and support for the full stack in the following environments and product lines: development, test, stage and production
  • Oversee administration and management of operational and performance application monitoring and alerting to ensure applications are available and performing at the highest levels
  • Responsible for hiring direct reports, implementing and reviewing staffing objectives and mentoring team
  • Take the lead on urgent issues and projects, ensuring statuses are properly communicated and appropriate staffing resources are assigned as required
  • Build and maintain code deployment and release automation tools for a Microsoft stack
  • Responsible for documentation of system configuration, processes and tools used by the team
  • Participate in an on-call rotation, providing after-hours deployment support as required
  • Ensure both release management and change management process are followed within production environments
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field or equivalent work experience
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
  • 5+ years of DevOps and/or configuration management experience in a technology-driven organization.
  • At least 2 years of staff management is also required.
  • Experience with DevOps concepts and technologies, including Agile, continuous integration and release processes
  • 5+ years of hands-on administration experience in both Windows and Linux environments
  • 4+ years of web hosting technologies (CDN, IIS, Apache, NGINX, .NET Framework, Perl, PHP, Python, Ruby)Deploy and maintain automation tools for code release management and administration, such as Jenkins, NuGet, BitBucket, and ArtifactoryFamiliarity with common database server technologies, such as MS SQL Server and PostgreSQL
  • Experience with large-scale high availability web applications, which includes failover testing and disaster recovery
  • Experience working with APM tools such as New Relic or Stackify
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a friendly, approachable demeanor
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with great attention to detail
