Job Description:

  • Work with senior team members to assess and develop long-term strategic goals for production databases in conjunction with data owners and department managers.
  • Work with the Architecture group and application development staff to develop database architectures, coding standards, quality assurance policies and procedures.
  • Document database environments/architectures, standards, policies and procedures.
  • Respond to and resolve database access and performance issues.
  • Monitor system details within the database and implement efficiency improvements.
  • Work with senior team members to design and implement systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data.
  • Allocate, monitor and optimize physical data storage for database systems.
  • Responsible for providing input to project planning and status reporting.
  • Accountable for contributing to the ongoing improvement of departmental processes, procedures and standards by recognizing opportunities for improvement and initiating action to develop and implement changes.
  • Responsible for maintaining a high level of knowledge on current information systems standards and emerging technologies related to business direction.
Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree/certificate from a data processing program of a recognized university or college or the equivalent in experience and education.
  • A minimum of 1 year experience as a Microsoft SQL Server DBA.Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
  • Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting database instances.
  • Hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with the sizing/estimating process, information systems development and support, and the preparation of detailed work plans/schedules.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a fluctuating workload with limited supervision.
  • Understanding of the analysis, design, and system development tools and techniques (Software Development Life Cycle).
  • Competent at problem resolution and system debugging.
