EDI specialist\'s day-to-day responsibilities include establishing contact with trading partners, analyzing the data exchanged with any partners, observing data records to record any errors, and correcting any failures.
EDI specialists work with employees at all levels of their organization to support accurate, proper data exchanges within the organization.
They assist the assigned end users to interpret messages and correct errors.
They also train end users on EDI processes.
Provides technical expertise and support for EDI communications.
Identifies requirements, setup, configures, implements, tests and maintains EDI transactions.
This may include global travel to sites to setup and configure EDI programs.
Analyze, design and develop specifications for enhancements and extensions to electronic data interchange application interfaces and maps
Document procedures and records solutions to known problems.
Utilize best practices globally in each map.
Isolates problem trends and ensures that troubleshooting efforts are completed for recurring problems until permanent solutions are found.
Must be a champion for pushing IT EDI standards, procedures and policies to all the business units operating globally for Develop good working relationships with end user community, resolve problems, and positively
Influence others in order to successfully produce increased customer satisfaction Remains on-call during off-peak hours to respond to support service issues
Required Skills
Technical skill level in detailed EDI maps and technical infrastructure to support the environment.
Broad understanding of ERP processes and workflow and how EDI is incorporated.
Must be able to effectively manage multiple projects and deadlines with urgency, and deliver high quality results using best-practice methods.
Demonstrated management and decision making skills concerning Information Systems policies, processes and procedures, with a proved track record of completing tasks and/or project within budget and on schedule Self-starter; able to manage multiple tasks efficiently for on-time delivery.
The individual will also maintain relationships/work with vendors or consultants on projects and technical support issues and with internal members.
May require global travel to sites/businesses to setup EDI programs.
This position may involve alter working schedules and providing support as required globally on issues as they arise.
Education and Experience
Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
3-5 years experience in working with EDI technologies.
Mapping development using IBM B2B Integrator and/or Gentran EDI software experience preferred.
However, strong mapping development in another tool will be considered.
Exposure to Oracle E-Business Suite is a plus.
Experience with EDI transactions in a manufacturing environment preferred.
ANSI X12 (810, 830, 850, 856 etc.)
European EDIFACT standards. Global trading partner setup a plus.
Experience working with detailed technical mapping documents, able to easily interpret complex documents and procedures.
Ability to develop effective working relationships with customers, co-workers and management; strong customer service orientation
Experience working in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects.
