Role: Network Engineer Location Fremont, CA Job description Network Engineer - Fremont This position is based in Fremont, California. Leading Internet backbone client seeks a network engineer that can code to join their Operations team in operating and expanding our global Internet backbone, writing tools for internal and external use, as well as conceiving and implementing new services. Clients Internet backbone network extends throughout North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. To be considered for this position you must be 1) have prior operational experience with BGP 1) you must be able to code. Responsibilities: Work on R&D projects by writing software or selecting, installing, and configuring open source Provide high-level support and rapid resolution to network problems Write scripts for network related needs such as device configuration, monitoring, regression testing, and reporting Create new web based tools and services Answer technical phone calls from networks and Internet companies Respond to customer support emails from networks and Internet companies Install and configure servers Assist in the physical deployment of network devices Provide highly skilled technical assistance in completing complex network planning, engineering, and architecture Requirements: 5+ years hands-on experience with a multi-site wide area network running BGP 5+ years of switching and routing experience. vlans, etc.; configuration and troubleshooting 5+ years of experience engineering and administering networks in a 24x7 production environment Experience working with Cisco, Juniper, Extreme/Brocade/Foundry routers and switches Hands-on experience with network diagnostic tools such as ping, traceroute, dig, and whois Strong troubleshooting skills Data center and Colo experience Solid knowledge of UNIX and TCP/IP network fundamentals Practical knowledge of networking protocols such as: IPv6, ARP, DNS, DHCP, HTTP, SSH, SNMP Extensive knowledge of at least one programming or scripting language required. Must have prior work experience using HTML, SQL, and Linux Knowledge of PHP, Ruby, Perl, Python, Javascript, C, or C++ a plus Ability to rapidly learn new software languages, frameworks and APIs quickly Possess excellent verbal/written (English) communication skills
