POSITION SUMMARY:

The Controls and Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, installing, managing and maintaining systems and equipment used to monitor and control our machinery and processes. The Controls and Instrumentation Engineer ensures these systems and processes operate effectively, efficiently and safely. The Controls and Instrumentation Engineer position will require proven process knowledge in but not limited to: stone quarrying and sizing, grinding and drying process, lime calcining process, materials handling, sampling, testing, and quality standards, and in addition, analyze and identify continuous process improvement opportunities in these areas. The role is multidisciplinary, working closely with colleagues across a number of functions, such as process engineering, operations, project engineering and information systems (IS). The position will require this person to train and mentor other Controls and Instrumentation Engineers. This position will need to understand project concepts, flow sheets, equipment specifications and layouts that incorporate the companies and industry wide best practices.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Work safely and ensure appropriate safe guards are in place to mitigate hazards and prevent incidents
  • Act as Controls and Instrumentation Engineer lead in directing and interfacing with other I&C engineers as required â?¢ Design, develop and test new control systems as well as maintaining and modifying existing systems
  • Provide programming development, testing and support for expert control systems (ECS), programmable logic controllers (PLC), human machine interfaces (HMI) and process networks
  • Work collaboratively with design engineers, plant engineers, IS and other internal staff
  • Participate in the development, implementation and compliance of plant process network standards Liaison with consultants, contractors and suppliers
  • Engage appropriate support to ensure compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental regulations and quality standards
  • Purchase equipment specific to instrumentation, control and network systems
  • Analyze data and present findings in clear written reports
  • Learn plant operations and existing systems (control, network, data management, etc.)
  • Calibrate instrumentation, tune control loops and optimize advanced controls and expert control systems
  • Able to work irregular hours or be on-call occasionally to support project implementation to deal with faults which occur at the plant operations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in control and instrumentation engineering or other engineering curriculum with controls and instrumentation experience â?¢ Minimum 6 yearsâ?? experience controls and/or process engineering experience in lime or equivalent industry
  • Demonstrated skills in specific control disciplines such as:
    • advanced process control (APC)
    • multiple-input & multiple-output (MIMO) with model predictive control (MPC)
    • distributed control systems (DCS)
    • programmable logic controllers (PLC) o supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA)
  • Frequent travel (up to 50% plus) including cross-border travel to Canada and Mexico.
