Reporting to the Senior Manager, eCommerce Merchandising, the eCommerce Search Manager will manage onsite search strategy development, enhancements and implementations required to improve our search experience. This role will lead the development of onsite search optimization processes, methodology, and practices leveraging onsite search platforms and related tools.
This role will work with Marketing, Digital Merchandising, and Hardgoods Product Management teams on the strategic ranking, sorting, and categorization (and assortment) of new and existing products through the product life cycle. This role will also support the eCommerce Merchandising team with reporting on KPIs and benchmarks for each program and provide actions to improve metrics. Success in this role will include positive NPS and CSAT scores measured quarterly.
- Develop comprehensive search strategies and be the driver of our search maturity roadmap and effectiveness and performance scorecards
- Create a better digital research and shopping experience by owning the comprehensive on-site search and navigation experience by defining and managing appropriate site navigation, filtering (faceting), category management, search results landing pages and product assortment for optimal customer discoverability, research/purchase path flow and product/offer positioning working with the eCommerce Search Analysts
- Oversee the determination and execution of onsite search strategy, searchable fields, relevancy ranking strategies and business rules (biases, thesaurus, redirects, triggers, etc)
- Understand, analyze and optimize customer journey conversion paths (look to buy vs. look to cart vs. cart to buy) with the goal of increasing the "add to basket" rate and make suggestions for improvement to the eCommerce team
- Partner with cross-functional teams and key stakeholders to define and measure search and merchandising success; provide business requirements and use cases/user stories from internal and external customers to the Digital Product Management and IT/Dev teams as part of a continuous search improvement program and roadmap
- Perform analysis of current-state and required-state data flows into and out of the search engine. Work closely with teams that enhance product data to ensure the process is working properly.
- Ensure timely response to onsite search feedback; actively engage with internal and external customers/stakeholders (quantitatively and qualitatively) to understand what they expect from search
- Leverage research, analytics and best practices to identify key search experience opportunities
- Translate business requirements into technical changes on the search application; ensure that search developers build the appropriate search solution that conforms to the agreed search architecture/design
- Build and utilize metrics for understanding the tradeoffs between search efficiency, search effectiveness and search relevance. Use precision, recall, mean reciprocal rank (MRR), Normalized Discounted Cumulative Gain (NDCG), and clickthrough rate as appropriate to improve the quality of search results.
- Manage third party relationships including search technology providers and contracted onsite search services.
- Identify opportunities to educate teams about the importance of search and navigation
- Provides oversight, coaching and guidance to junior-level staff

Are you a MATCH?
- Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Digital technologies or similar relevant field preferred; demonstrated applicable work experience acceptable
- 5+ years' experience in eCommerce (B2B preferred) with a deep knowledge of eCommerce best practices including online shopping experiences, competitive strategies and landscaping, testing and industry trends.
- 5+ years of using search engine platforms such as ElasticSearch, Lucene, Solr or Endeca; comparable platforms/tools will be considered
- 2+ years managing people - both individual contributors and teams / projects
- Advanced experience in Google Analytics or Adobe Analytics
- Strong G Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Sites)
- Experience creating and driving product vision, product roadmaps, and design discussions
- Experience in relevancy and findability techniques
- Experience in relational database (MS SQL or similar) schema design, optimization and architecture
- Good understanding and experience for query expansion/rewrite techniques such as synonyms, auto complete, spell correction, query optimization, query to query similarity.
