Job Description:
Key experience is Labor Relationships with the unions - Heavy negotiations.
The Human Resources Manager is responsible for providing leadership in developing and executing human resources strategy in support of the Companys HR policies & practices, the overall site business plan and strategic direction of the organization, specifically in the areas of recruitment, workforce planning, employee relations, labor relations, change management, performance management, personal development, and compensation. This position provides strategic HR leadership to the 400-employee chemical manufacturing facility located in Elwood, IL. Position reports to the Plant Manager, with dotted line responsibility to the Corporate HR leader.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible to meet site EH&S standards for self and team.
2. Advise the site management team in identifying performance needs, develop strategies and programs to manage change and drive improved performance.
3. Develop and lead strategic HR and Labor activities to advance the site business goals.
4. Leads the Labor initiatives for the site. Manages the union contract and participates in contract negotiations. Maintains effective and continuous working relationship with organized labor representatives.
5. Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues. Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, increase productivity and retention. Provides day to day performance management guidance to line management (coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
6. Oversees employee engagement and retention programs.
7. Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
8. Administers compensation program; monitors performance evaluation program, aligns with Company processes and recommends revisions as necessary.
9. Oversees site administration of employee benefits programs including health and welfare, 401(k), Pension, and the Company variable pay program.
10. Oversees the recruitment and onboarding process at the facility.
11. Develops, implements and maintains site HR policies and procedures, aligned with Company policies and procedures.
12. Establish strong partnerships with corporate and plant HR partners to enhance company HR initiatives and communications,
13.Partners with EHS Manager as needed to support EHS training and development of employees.
14. Lead and develop a team of 5 HR professionals.
Required Experience
A Bachelors degree from an accredited college/university; Masters degree preferred.
PHR or SPHR certified preferred;
Minimum of 8 years labor relations experience;
Minimum of 8 years resolving complex employee relation issues and Human Resource Generalist Experience;
Minimum of 5 years experience in a manufacturing/factory environment.
Working knowledge of EHS standards and multiple human resource disciplines including compensation practices, employee and union relations, diversity, performance management, federal and state employment laws.
