Under general supervision, performs high-level systems analysis, evaluation, design, integration, documentation, and implementation of very complex application that require a thorough knowledge of administrative and technical skills.
Directs and participates in all phases of system development with emphasis on planning, analysis, evaluation, integration, testing and acceptance phases (IV&V and DT&E). Applies higher-level business or technical principles and methods to very difficult technical problems to arrive at automated engineering solutions.
Engineer will have broad knowledge of UNIX and Linux implementations to include Oracle Solaris on SPARC, Oracle Solaris on x86, Oracle operations manager, Oracle Unbreakable Linux, and Red-Hat Enterprise Linux.
Engineer will be responsible for evaluating parch management and processor optimization settings, as well as advise on Oracle Domains and VMWare virtualization of Linus.
Engineer will document and socialize UNIX system design, including information assurance design attributes to a change-management team. Engineer will possess a CISSP certification.
MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:

Administers policy as provided by the test engineers and security engineer.
Develops detailed procedures and documentation for performing routine system maintenance.
Conducts regularly scheduled system maintenance for the multiserver/multiplatform network.
Actively monitors and provides performance tuning for the Unix operating environments.
Provide 24/7 services for Unix/Linux OS and Oracle Hardware related issues.
Provides system administration on UNIX, DOS/Windows, and Macintosh platforms.
Establish Central configuration management toolsConsolidates and standardizes district systemsResponsible for test and development of the Next Generation Unix/Linux services.
Maintains operating systems and hardware to the most current approved levels.
Applies patches and updates to application software.
Assists the Computer Technicians, E-mail Administrator, Network Engineer, and LAN/WAN personnel in the performance of their duties as required.
Works in conjunction with Technical Writers to ensure all configurations and modifications are documented.Administers and updates antivirus software.
Responsible for the backup of data, including monitoring end-user backups, automatic backup routines, and installing and maintaining backup software.
Complies with all ASI (ASI) Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS), and Quality Assurance (QA), requirements and goals.
Ensures that all subordinate employees are trained and understand ASI EHS, and QA, requirements and goals.
Maintain documentation as necessary to meet these requirements.
Implements and maintains a safe workplace program, ensuring safety is the highest priority.Communicates professionally, both orally and in writing. Interacts professionally with the ACE-IT and other agency officials.
One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
Education:Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
Graduate of military or technical courses in the field of Information Technology preferred.
This position requires DoDI 8570.01-M IASAE Level I certification and corresponding Computing Environment certification. Required to have Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) GIAC Certified Intrusion Analyst (GCIA).
