Responsibilities Perform system and database performance analysis, capacity planning, system sizing and ongoing maintenance/tuning to ensure maximum performance of the Netezza appliance platform Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups Use the NzAdmin and Performance Portal tools for typical administrative tasks Understand and implement best practices for Genstats, Grooms and Backups Establish and implement appropriate data distribution methods, zone maps, and CBTs to achieve and maintain high performance for known workloads Manage Development, QA, Production and DR environments Establish, maintain, and report against query history tables and views to forecast capacity and workload Work closely with DBAs, Developers, Testers, Architects, Business Analysts and other IT staff to implement System Administration standards, policies, methods, and procedures Create, test, implement and monitor an automated set of procedures for necessary maintenance activities Work closely with IBM support to manage hardware/software failures, appliance upgrades and install patches Provide Tier III/other support per request from various constituencies. Investigate and troubleshoot issues. Participate in after-hours on-call duties as required Profile workload and implement prioritization and configuration using the Gatekeeper, GRA, and Snippet Schedulers. Design and manage alerting mechanisms for systems issues. Ensure appropriate prioritization and response occurs in a timely manner. Review systems and logs proactively. Extract meaningful insights that are actionable. Manage system access and security Required Skills 5+ years of hands-on experience with IBM PureData (Netezza) data warehouse products highly preferred, but experience with RedHat Linux required Knowledge of IBM PureData (Netezza) Architecture and system internals, including updates and features. Netezza DBA experience and familiarity with INZA and SQL Extensions a plus Experience with Bash/Korn Shell Scripting Extensive experience with backup and restore and disaster recovery solutions Experience implementing and deploying Systems Administration best practices
