Job Description:

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Owns the entire payroll process from start to finish, ensuring timely and accurate processing, delivery and reconciliation of all payrolls. Directs and oversees the team??s production of all weekly, bi-weekly, monthly and special compensation payroll runs.
  • Reviews and performs all necessary approvals and troubleshoots problems.
  • Oversees and participates in pre- and post-payroll auditing procedures and troubleshoots anomalies. Owns the relationship with our international outsourced payroll platform provider and ensures excellent payroll service.
  • Manages the development, implementation, and administration of department records, systems and procedures, and oversees, monitors and ensures the timeliness and quality of the data entry of human resources and payroll information into Workday, Covanta\'s human resources management system.
  • Participates in system enhancements and upgrade testing to validate expected functionality as designed. Oversees and participates in the development, implementation and maintenance of all payroll policies, objectives, short- and long-term planning.
  • Develops and implements projects and programs to assist in accomplishment of established goals. Collaborates with the Total Rewards team and others to coordinate the planning, implementation and administration of programs to develop, adjust, and/or enhance payroll systems and procedures due to changes in tax laws, regulations, and Company pay policies/compensation initiatives.
  • Oversees tax and regulatory reporting, quarter end and year end payroll activities, including wage and hour laws, unemployment, and all other required submissions. Plans and coordinates the production and distribution of all employee tax statements and notifications (e.g., W-2s) as required by law.
  • Ensure timely and high value customer service to employees, including developing and adhering to established SLAs and ensuring research and responses are thorough. Directs staff engaged in the above activities (including providing coaching and training, setting goals, evaluating performance, and planning staff assignments and development), and collaborates with Vice President, Total Rewards to make people management decisions.
  • Manages special projects as needed.

Position Requirements

  • Minimum of eight years as a Payroll Manager or Director.
  • BA/BS degree preferred
  • CPP /APA designation preferred.
  • Prior experience managing payroll for a company with multiple locations and international operations.
