General Purpose of Job:  
Obstetrics Medical Director~  functions as the lead physician for Maternal Fetal Medicine and Obstetrical care and is responsible for the leadership, quality of care, financial integrity and physician/provider development within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.  The position reports to the Chief Medical Officer of EWSH and works in a dyad relationship with the Director of Women’s Services (RN).  It is expected, as a key component of this role, the Medical Director will provide primary care clinical services.

Develop a shared EW Sparrow Hospital vision and strategic direction for Maternal Fetal Medicine and Obstetrical care services utilizing the principles and concepts of the Sparrow Health System’s Mission, Vision, Values and the Sparrow Way.
Critically evaluate, prioritize and implement opportunities for organizational growth, clinical integration and patient centeredness consistent with the Mission, Vision, Values and goals of Sparrow.
In collaboration (dyad leadership) with the Director of Women’s Services and Sparrow leadership, recruit, select, oversee and develop into a high functioning multidisciplinary team, individuals to manage performance and resources to achieve strategic priorities and high-quality clinical outcomes through the promotion of Lean principles and continuous improvement.
Work directly with physician and nursing leaders to create, review, and monitor policies and practices on Labor and Delivery, OB triage, mother-baby floor, and OB special care unit.
Monitor quality metrics and drive changes in clinical practice to meet/exceed goals
In collaboration with other SMG specialty divisions, develop and implement programs and processes to promote physician and provider well-being and engagement.
Collaborate with physician leaders from Neonatology, Obstetrical Anesthesia, Family Medicine, and Obstetrics on implementation of clinical best practices  
Develop, mentor and serve as a resource for physician and non-physician leaders of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology
Oversee clinical quality, risk management, service and compliance of Obstetric services.
Establish practice performance metrics (people, service, quality, resources, growth and safety) and dashboards, crafting improvement plans as necessary and guiding the resolution of issues as they arise.
Communicate and collaborate with health system affiliates in the development of system-wide initiatives (programs of excellence, etc.)
Investigate and implement when appropriate innovative approaches to care and access to care.
Promote evidence-based best practices and patient centered clinical integration among all Sparrow caregivers and Sparrow Health System entities.
Provides oversight to physician and advanced practice providers (APP) performance and assists in coaching and the development of performance improvement plans where appropriate.
Participate in the education of ObGyn Resident physicians in both administrative and clinical activities

Work Experience:
• Current Physician leadership experience. 
• A minimum of 5 years of clinical practice experience. 
• Experience in an integrated delivery system 
• Previous experience in a medical leadership role. 
• Experience with LifeWings / Crew Resource Management
Education:
• MD/DO degree 
• Medical license and board certification in Maternal Fetal Medicine. 
• Advanced management or academic degree. Preferred.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
• Proven ability to drive strategic and tactical/operational aspects busy labor and delivery unit. 
• Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and team building skills, with proven ability to influence across functional line to promote change. 
• Persuasive oral and written skills, as demonstrated in oral presentations and written reports. 
• Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as will be required to perform the essential duties of the position

The SMG Maternal Fetal Medical service at Sparrow Hospital is expanding clinical services and is seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated, full-time Medical Director, Maternal Fetal Medicine/Obstetrics to join its program in Lansing, Michigan.

4200 deliveries per year, Level 3 Neonatal ICU
50 percent administrative responsibilities and 50 percent clinical
Reports to the Chief Medical Officer of Sparrow Hospital
Requirements:
  • Current physician leadership experience
  • Minimum of five years of clinical practice experience
  • Medical license and board certification in Maternal Fetal Medicine
