Job Description:
Job Responsibilities
- In collaboration with payroll stakeholder, develop payroll processing, create check-list, and continue to develop SOP (standard operating procedure).
- Prioritizes workload, develops and recommends changes in payroll processing procedures.
- Provide hands-on payroll processing support to ensure payroll deadline are met.
- Act as the first point of escalation for payroll administrators by providing support, and â??how toâ?? instructions by leveraging SOPs.
- Monitor the â??shared payroll email inboxâ?? to ensure proper processing action has been taken place
- When necessary, response diplomatically to customers/station concerns &/or complaints on behalf of the payroll team, and put through corrective actions
- Provide daily coaching to Payroll Administrators on end-to-end payroll processing, labour legislation, and internal procedures.
- Conduct regular team handles or team meeting to provide new or updates instructions, while building a supportive team relationship.
- Oversees, and reviews the work of the payroll support staff by conducting performance reviews.
- Provide coaching and guidance to help develop team members and advance their capabilities and careers.
- Ensure proper controls, improvement, and efficiency of payroll function.
- Produce any necessary ad-hoc reports when required for internally HR/Payroll team, customers, or required by the union representatives.
- Must establish and maintain strong and meaningful relationships with stakeholders (various station Payroll departments, HR, Finance, GM).
- Engage and encourage a team-spirit environment.
Qualifications and Competencies
- An undergraduate degree, preferably in HR, Finance, or Business and/or equivalent experience
- Minimum 5 years of working experience in payroll preparation and processing
- Require at least 2 years in a leadership/supervisory role
- Bilingual (English/French), both spoken and written
- Solid knowledge of Ceridianâ??s Dayforce HCM is highly desired
- High proficiency with Excel (pivot tables and lookups)
- Good knowledge of the Canada Labour Code and unionized environment
- A certified payroll professional would be considered an asset, but not required
