Job Description:

  • His position reports to the Director of Development and will work in collaboration with their counterpart in Central Canada to manage and execute strategies to increase cultivation and solicitation activities that will lead to the achievement of revenue and retention targets.

Duties will include but may not be limited to:

  • Manage the full scope of activities related to the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of an assigned portfolio of major gift and legacy gift prospects and donors, including individuals, foundations and corporations
  • Meet annual budget targets as outlined in the annual budget goals through the development and implementation of fundraising strategies
  • Proactively identify new potential major supporters, conduct research and develop strategic recommendations to initiate cultivation
  • Serve as the organization??s relationship manager and main point of contact for specific donors and prospects as assigned; develop a coordinated strategy for specific donors/prospects and obtain internal buy-in, ensuring coordinated communication and engagement with that particular donor/prospect and a high level of service
  • Work closely with the Development and Strategic Programs teams to ensure all major gift donors are receiving appropriate and consistent recognition
  • Assemble the appropriate combination of program and donor information; generate letters and proposals; develop fundraising materials, such as cases for support; make phone calls, write and send e-mails or other forms of correspondence; periodically follow up with donors; and track all ??moves? in the appropriate database
  • Work closely with Strategic Programs team, and others as required, to deliver reports and financial statements to donors as agreed to in contribution agreements
  • Provide executive fundraising support to the CEO on the CEOâ??s list of target prospects
  • Oversee the prospect pipeline for the organization, including prospect management (ensuring consistent prospect ID, ranking, clearance, prospect assignment and record keeping), prospect related processes, and coordination with Prospect Researcher
  • Support and possibly attend small group or individual tours of project areas as required
  • Assist in the development of case for support and other fundraising materials, working closely with the strategic priority area working groups and the Communications team
  • Represent the Development teamâ??s interests on organization-wide undertakings as required
  • Work with the Development, Finance, Shared Platform, Strategic Programs and Communications teams to improve processes that support cross-functional gift and donor management
  • Foster an understanding and support of philanthropy within the organization Secondary Responsibilities
  • Work with cross-functional teams to help shape plans to launch programmatic campaigns on specific issue areas
  • With Development team, build annual and multi-year overarching fundraising plan and refine the cases for donors to support core operations of
  • With Development team, develop a graduated and comprehensive plan to build and strengthen the capacity of the organization, board and externally oriented staff to make appropriate contributions to overall fundraising goals and implementation plans
  • Provide support for the Donor Engagement Committee, a committee of the Board of Directors, as requested
  • Maintain and update data for all assigned donors

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Related University Degree; a fundraising, planned giving or volunteer management certificate, or Graduate studies in related field, preferred
  • Member of AFP, preferably with (CFRE) designation
  • General knowledge of the theory and practice of major gifts and demonstrated knowledge of fundamental fundraising practices is essential
  • Minimum of 7 yearsâ?? experience in professional fundraising (10 years preferred), with a focus on major gifts and with significant exposure to stewardship, cultivation and donor management
  • 3+ years Major Gift fundraising and/or business development experience, with a proven track record of closing major gifts and/or securing business at the $10,000 + level
  • A demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit who thrives as an independent self-starter
  • kills in diplomacy and negotiation, and the ability to mediate between individual and facilitate groups of people working towards a common goal
  • Knowledge of the ability to maintain professional standards
  • Knowledge of donor advised funds and/or social finance, and of conservation and/or social issues, preferred
  • Exceptional service orientation combined with well-developed interpersonal and public relations skills in order to interface with major donors, senior volunteers and staff with the professional presence necessary to interact with various parties
  • Ability to write and speak fluently and be able to write for the fundraising environment to advance fundraising cases for support and to develop strategic development plans
  • Demonstrated ability to draft, and coach others to draft, proposals, gift agreements, stewardship letters and reports and other written documentation as required
  • Excellent project management, prioritization and time-management skills in order to balance competing priorities, complex situations and tight deadlines while driving to surpass goals
  • Experience with small or start-up organizations or initiatives; high comfort with different organizational cultures
  • Working knowledge of charity regulatory environment and reporting requirements, fundraising, grant development and reporting
  • Talent for identifying issues and problem solving
  • Experience with general financial oversight
  • Experience using a CRM database and committed to maintaining accurate and detailed files and databases, particularly Salesforce
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in applicable computer programs, donor databases and social media platforms

Tech-savvy :

  • Excellent comprehension and ease with the application of Microsoft Office programs, particularly Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Ability to work both collaboratively in a team (local and remote) and independently
