Job Description:
Overview:
The Payroll Technician I compiles payroll data and maintains payroll processing records in the Timekeeping and HRIS/Payroll Software Systems while interpreting company policies and government regulations that directly affect payroll procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Timekeeping System
- Verify departments approval of hours worked and process time reports.
- Input corrections and additions to time clock entries.
- Verify that timesheets balance to Payroll Transfer report.
- Export Hours and create Excel spreadsheets to verify exported hours to payroll transfer reports.
- Enter / verify new hires, timekeepers, supervisors and approvers in the system.
UltiPro HRIS/ Payroll System
- Prepare computer input forms, enter data in computer files, or compute wages and deductions and post to payroll records.
- Process and balance Payroll.
- Input and verify corrections and calculate pay adjustments.
- Verify and balance earnings and deductions.
- Create and complete balance sheet in Microsoft Excel.
- Balance payroll data from pre-check reports to the balance sheet in Excel.
- Print pre-check reports, verify all balances and review for discrepancies or zero checks.
- Create ACH file.
- Process direct deposit and print direct deposit advices and checks.
Process Positive Pay.
- Calculate hours and PTO balance payoff and prepare manual checks for terminated employees.
- Verify new employee benefit/deductions; Perform calculations to prorate new benefit deductions, verify new 401k plan participants, calculate and enter 401k loan deduction information.
- Verify new hire information entered by Human Resources such as personal information, rate of pay, job group, earnings categories, deductions and tax information; entering necessary additional payroll data.
- Process/verify all wage adjustments, transfers, promotions or other job changes in the system.
Other
- Print Bi-Weekly payroll reports for department records.
- Print /Process reports for departments.
- Print and verify reports for Accounting and Audit.
- Assist employees and department managers in resolving payroll questions or errors.
- Research and prepare any written correspondence required from outside sources for verifications of employee wages and employee information (employment verifications).
- Maintain filing for assigned department.
Qualifications:
One year certificate from college or technical school; or 1 year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
