Responsibilities

• Design structures to be as efficient as possible while maintaining building code compliance.
  
• Review contract documents to ensure correct fabrication and compliance with design standards.
  
• Perform site visits to evaluate the construction progress, identify deficiencies, recommend and give instruction for repairs.
  
• Connection design.
  
• Communicate with clients and other team members to understand project requirements.
  
• Random inspection of fabricated items and collaboration with welders and fitters.
  
• Working collaboratively with customers, engineers, detailers, checkers, welders, fitters & ironworkers.
  
• Facilitate and assist in streamlining and optimizing processes and procedures.
  
• Participate in safety and quality assurance programs.
  

Qualifications:

• 2 to 5+ years experience in structural design with P. Eng designation in Nova Scotia as an asset.
  
• Demonstrated understanding of engineering principles and theory and the ability to apply this knowledge to solve unique design scenarios and remedy field issues.
  
• Strong understanding of S16 steel design code beyond simple familiarity.
• Knowledge of other current design and welding codes such as CSA W47.1 and W59 along AWS D1.1 and AISC Steel Design Manual would be considered an asset.
  
• Must be able to recognize the design intent and underlying theories of steel design in order to address more complicated design problems.
  
• Ability to read and understand construction, erection and shop drawings from all disciplines.
• This requires extreme attention to detail in order to make sure all information and items are accounted from project inception through to completion.
  

Skills:

• Microsoft Office, RAM, AutoCAD or Autodesk Revit or Tekla X Steel and/or structural analysis software are considered an asset.
  
• Ability to work independently and coordinate information with team members.
  
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business and technical documents
  
• Ability to visualize an object in both two and three dimensions
  
• Safety training is considered an asset* (WHMIS, First Aid, Fall Protection, OH&S)
  
• Experience in structural steel and miscellaneous metals steel design is considered an asset.
