Role:Sr. Mechanical Test Engineer

Loc: Brooklyn Park, MN


Essential Duties And Responsibilities :

  • Collaborates with New Product Development and Continuation Engineering cross-functional project teams to define testing (component-, subsystem-, and/or product-level), plan resources (personnel and equipment), and determine scheduleDevelops and documents new test methodologies or utilizes existing test procedures to minimize test duration and to optimize correlation between laboratory and actual product application conditions .
  • Designs, fabricates, and/or modifies fixtures for testing mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and/or structural components, subsystems, and/or products Installs hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and/or electronic test units or test systems in fixtures or products, and instruments the test unit, system, or product to record relevant data.
  • Coordinates and/or participates in the execution of testsConsolidates test results, performs reliability analyses, and provides timely summaries to project teams .
  • Analyzes tested components, subsystems, and/or products to determine root cause of failures and to provide recommendations to project teamsAssigns tasks and provides direction to Test Technicians and Test DriversPerforms other duties as assigned .

EducationMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, a related engineering degree, or equivalent engineering educationExperienceMinimum 2 years testing mechanical, electro-mechanical, and/or hydro-mechanical devices, components, and/or systems.
  • Knowledge & Personal AttributesWillingness and ability to perform hands-on work.

Strong technical ability and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with others in a team environment.Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form.
  • Knowledge of standard hand tools and measurement devices.Ability to read and interpret electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical schematics.
  • General knowledge of manufacturing and plant assembly operation processes.
  • Working knowledge of electricity, hydraulics, and pneumatic s.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks.Strong personal drive and self-motivation with a positive attitude.
  • Knowledge of reliability engineering concepts and tools (R&C factors, Weibull, HALT, ALT).Knowledge of various gauges, sensors, and data acquisition units.
  • Ability to identify safety concerns, suggest solutions, and follow through to closure.
  • Willingness to travel on an as-needed basis to support group objectives (<5% time).
  • Ability to interact with all functional areas and all organizational levels.
  • Ability to mentor Test Technicians.
  • Ability to solve problems both creatively and utilizing established processes.Good decision-making ability based on strong inductive and deductive reasoning skills.
  • Computer SkillsProficiency in use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and ProjectExperience with LabVIEWExperience with computer-aided design (CAD) toolsCapability to learn new software and systems
