POSITION:   Charge Nurse- Emergency

STATUS:       Non-Exempt

 

POSITION SUMMARY

Addresses the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of patient care related to the Emergency Department. Provides direct and indirect patient care to neonate through geriatric patient age-groups. The Emergency Department charge nurse provides guidance to nursing and ancillary staff makes bed assignments and manages staffing. The charge nurse serves as a liaison between the  doctors and other staff in the hospital.The charge nurse manages the department work flow and monitors patient care and facilitates patient transfer to other facilites.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.  Minimum of five year experience in and acute care facility preferred. Emergency Department Charge nurse experienced preferred

 

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION

Current Registered Nurse  in the state of Texas (or compact equivalent)

Current BCLS required. ACLS and PALS required within first 90 day of employment.  ENCP preferred.

Provides direct patient care and performs head-to-toe assessment on all patients. 

Collects and accurately documents comprehensive data pertinent to the patient’s health and wellness.

Identifies physical symptoms and changes and takes appropriate action in a timely manner.  

Evaluates patient outcomes and analyzes the assessment data to determine diagnoses or other issues.

Documents performance evaluation for the Emergency Dept staff with  ED Nurse Manager input.

Educates patient and family on plan of care.  Maintains privacy and confidentiality.

Identifies communication and cultural needs of the patient and utilizes resources to ensure appropriate delivery of patient care.

Promotes a safe patient environment by identifying at risk patient i.e. implementing fall precautions.
